Aims and Objectives: The aim is to protect Indian women's health by creating a center that will establish links with international existing academic and research centers that can provide current scientific information, translated to simple knowledge. Also, creating awareness regarding women specific health issues among rural populations.
Simultaneously, partenering with academic institutions of repute, research organizations and NGOs shall take the cause forward and give impetus to this endeavor.
Bioinformatics, Systems Biology and Systems Medicine are newly emerging interdisciplinary research areasdeciphering the complexity of biological systems that starts with the understanding of molecular interaction networksforming the whole of living organisms more than the sum of their parts. Collectively methods from Systems Biology and Systems Medicine integrate many scientific disciplines, such as, biology, computer science, engineering, bioinformatics, physics and others – to predict how complex biological systems change over time under varying conditions. The main aim is to develop efficientsolutions to the world’s most pressing health and environmental issues along with optimization of biotechnology and industrial processes.The disciplinehas its roots in computational biology, a field that has been driven during the last two decades largely by enormous amounts of data generated and deposited in the public databases. It is a science of storing, extracting, organizing, analyzing, interpreting and utilizing information for holistic research in biology and biotechnological product development. Many advanced methods such as artificial intelligence, data mining, and knowledge discovery techniques are being used for obtaining information required for analysis and decision making. These days, developments in the life sciences were not possible without using sophisticated computer algorithms, signal and image processing methodsthat are sometimes characterized by heavy computational requirements. Almost all research institutes, medical universities, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies need highly trained manpower in the field of bioinformatics, systems biology and systems medicine. There is a huge gap between the trained manpower available and required globally. We propose the establishment of a centerfor excellence in the field of bioinformatics, systems biology and systems medicine with the help of internationally renowned experts at Amity University.
Amity University, the center of excellence in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology and Systems Medicine will immediately boost research collaborations both nationally and internationally with the scope of customized as well as ready to use solutions for research institutions and industries. We have already established international and national collaborations to start the activities of the centre of the excellence in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology and Systems Medicine. More specifically, we have signed MOU with Department of Systems Biology and Bioinformatics, University of Rostock, Germany; Aachen University, Germany; University of California, USA, various research laboratories of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Indian Council of Medical Research, National Institute of Technologies, Technical Universities along with some industries. Centre will actively collaborate with these organizations to attract international and national third party funding.
Centre will provide teaching modules in the advanced area of Bioinformatics, Systems Biology and Systems Medicine for graduate, post graduate students, and doctoral research programs. Besides courses, the centre will regularly organize thematic workshops and training programs for students and professionals. Students enrolled in the doctoral research programs will be jointly supervised by Amity University and foreign collaborators. Centre will also organize online courses in the niche area of bioinformatics and systems biology so that students from all the Amity University campuses can be benefited. In the long run, the centre will design complete master’s course in 1) Bioinformatics and Systems Biology; 2) Personalized Medicine; 3) Life-science data analysis, etc.
